About Me

Merle Meyer

I am an accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and a Clinical Psychosexual Therapist with the Society of Australian Sexologists (SAS). Passionate about rural service delivery, I work in private practice in Geraldton. In addition to this, I am a sessional tutor and residential facilitator in the Bachelor of social work at Geraldton University Centre.

I work with adults, young people and couples experiencing various mental health issues and relationship difficulties. With specialist training in sexology and cognitive behaviour therapy, I apply a sex-positive approach for clients with diverse sexual backgrounds, relationship styles, genders, and sexualities. I facilitate people's journeys in relationships to improve communication, emotional intimacy, and sexual connection, exploring sexual challenges and opportunities and providing a supportive space to understand and resolve the factors contributing to or maintaining challenging situations.

Areas of expertise include:

I provide a client-tailored approach supported by evidence-based treatment protocols for various psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, alcohol and other drug concerns, trauma, grief, relationship counselling, and clinical supervision.

Education

A graduate of Flinders University, I hold a Master of Social Work and a Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Science (CBT). As well as my Master of Sexology (Professional) degree from Curtin University, I possess a BA degree in Social Science (Psychology and Social Work) and an Advanced Diploma in Policing and Administration from the University of South Africa.
